Supporting the Village
The Process
Giving Resources
Prospective volunteers must attend a foster care sensitivity training, clear our background check, and take additional childcare trainings if they desire to work directly with children. Here’s what to expect:
Select your volunteer team of interest
Register and attend in-person volunteer training at our Resource Center
Complete the volunteer application & submit background check
View upcoming opportunities & get plugged in
Welcome Packs & Hospitality Team
On Call, Responsive, Flexible
Is your time limited, but do you want to find ways to plug in when you can?
Are you looking for an ongoing commitment that is flexible?
Do you thrive in last-minute requests?
Do you have a car?
Do you love to create memories that matter?
Be a part of “in the moment” needs when it fits your schedule. You’ll be a part of the team that is on standby for other needs that pop up for our families experiencing foster care. Volunteers help deliver Welcome Packs, car seats, meals, and other basic necessities to children entering foster care by picking up pre-packed donations from our resource center and delivering them to foster homes within 20 miles of our center. This team also sets up for birthday celebrations at our Connection Cottage, fulfills facility needs, and much more.
Background checks and volunteer training are required for both teams.
Childcare & Events Team
Consistent, Relational, Engaging
Can you create space on the weekends (specifically on Sunday afternoons?)
Do you come alive when you hold a baby, play pretend with a toddler, craft with a preschooler, and play games with older kids?
Are you willing to take part in additional trauma-informed training led by our FVC staff to help equip you with the unique needs of children experiencing foster care?
Provide safe, supportive child care during our monthly support gatherings and special events to make an incredible difference in the lives of children and caregivers. For some families, these gatherings are a lifeline that keeps them going as they navigate the wild world of child welfare, and our childcare team is a huge part of their success.
Foster Village Charlotte’s support groups and workshops are hosted monthly for two to three hours. There are additional opportunities to engage through quarterly family gatherings, parent morning outs, and more.
While there is the occasional opportunity to serve during the week, this volunteer opportunity is primarily on weekends (specifically Sunday afternoons).
Please note that consistency is a huge bonus for our kiddos (they look forward to seeing you each month). Volunteers serving 2 x a quarter to the best of their ability is best, ensuring consistency in the lives of children experiencing foster care.
Sherry, FVC Volunteer
“I hope you all really understand the impact you have on the community. All the help I see you all do is a reminder of why I had to become a volunteer."
Being the village is the act of showing up. Let’s show up together.
Your support gives children experiencing foster care and the families caring for them the village of support they need to thrive.
