Sensory Strategies for the Infant Nervous System Training

  • WATERSHED CHARLOTTE CHURCH 2101 Shenandoah Avenue Charlotte, NC, 28205 United States (map)

Many of the children that come into our care can be difficult to soothe for a number of reasons, including drug exposure, neglect, sensory deprivation, and malnutrition.  Due to difficulties with self-regulation, these children are reliant on us, as their caregivers, to give them comfort and help them calm.  This presentation will explore various sensory strategies to help facilitate development of the infant nervous system. As the nervous system begins to heal and integrate, children begin to make gains in their ability to self-sooth, tolerate sensory stimulation, engage and interact with others, and feel more at peace in their own bodies. This presentation will also cover positioning techniques to help support head shape, as well as best practices for equipment use in order to promote normal infant development
